The Indira Gandhi National OPEN University known as IGNOU is a distance learning national university located in IGNOU road Maidan Garhi New Delhi India. IGNOU the largest university in the world with over 3 million students was founded to impart education by means of distance and OPEN education provide higher education opportunities particularly to the disadvantaged segments of society encourage coordinate and set standards for distance and OPEN education in India and strengthen the human resources of India through education. It has 21 schools and a network of 67 regional centres, 2667 study centres and 29 overseas centres(15 countries). IGNOU was established in 1985 and IGNOU is run by the CENTRAL government of India. Approximately 20% of all students enrolled in higher education in India are enrolled with IGNOU. IGNOU offers 226 academic programs comprising courses at certificate diploma and degree levels. IGNOU is also recognized as a CENTRAL University by the University Grants Commission of India (UGC). It is approved by 5 and Association of Indian Universities(AIU), IGNOU is accredited by Distance Education Council (DEC). Free of cost education is being provided to all jail inmates across the country. Division The Indira Gandhi National OPEN University has the following Eleven Divisions to take care of various activities: Academic and Coordination Division Administrative Division Construction and Maintenance Computer Division International Division Finance and Accounts Division Library and Documentation Division Material Production and Distribution Planning and Development Division Regional Services Division Student Evaluation Division Project IGNOU-UNESCO Gender Training Project: This gender training kit gives you an opportunity to upgrade your knowledge and skills in the crucial area of gender and development. If you are already engaged in gender training or you want to become a gender trainer you can sign up at the learning centre. Construction Workers Vocational Qualification (CWVQ) Project: The project aims at providing competency based vocational training assessment and certification through the distance mode for skill development of construction workers. The project has been implemented with the help of Builders' Association of India (BAI) National Building Construction Corporation (NBCC) and National Academy of Construction (NAC) Hyderabad. Library The IGNOU library is the most resourceful information centre in the country in the field of Distance Education. The library has the largest collection of books journals and other related materials in the field of Distance Education throughout the country. It was established in 1986 in tune with the objectives of IGNOU. Ranking Survey by Careers 360 magazine and Yahoo! India on Distance Learning has ranked Indira Gandhi National OPEN University (IGNOU) as the Best Distance Learning institution for the year 2011. Survey by Yahoo!
