Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha New Delhi was established in 1962 under Akhil Bharatiya Sanskrit Sahitya Sammelan. Shastriji in his capacity as the Prime Minister of India declared to develop this Vidyapeetha as an International Institution. It is located at Qutub Institutional Area New Delhi. Former Prime Minister Lt. Indira Gandhi was made President soon after death of Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri in 1996. It is approved by University Grants Commission (UGC). It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) Why to join Vidhyapeetha: The university Provides means for the training of Sanskrit teachers and to conduct research in Sanskrit education. It Provides facilities for the study of languages and literatures on Sanskrit studies such as Pali Iranian Tibetan Mongolian Chinese Japanese etc. It is engaged in Collecting preserving and publishing manuscripts. It has built Rashtriya Sanskrit Pustakalaya and Sangrahalaya to provide means for training in Manuscriptology specifically in scripts used for Sanskrit manuscripts. It Promotes inter-action between modern and traditional scholars for mutual enrichment. It Organizes shastra parishads seminars conferences and workshops. It Recognized degrees diplomas and certificates of other educational bodies institutes as equivalent to those of the Vidyapeetha. It awards fellowships scholarships prizes and medals in accordance with the rules of UGC.
