The Railway Recruitment Board has published a notification for RRB ALP Recruitment 2024 ,January 19. Candidates who are interested in the post of assistant Loco Pilot can check the notification at the official website of RRBs at indianrailways.gov.in. The recruitment drive is being conducted to fill up a total of 5,696 vacancies of assistant loco pilot in Indian Railways.
According to the official announcement, the registration process will begin on January 20, and the deadline to submit the online application is February 19. The application correction window will be active from February 20 to February 29
RRB ALP Recruitment 2024: Eligibility criteria
Candidates can have a look at the eligibility criteria for the RRB ALP recruitment below.
- The applicant should be a citizen of India.
- He or she should be in good physical and mental health.
- Candidates for the ALP position should be familiar with the regional language of the area where they are applying.
- He or she should be mentally fit to perform the job of an assistant loco pilot.
- Candidates must have Class 10 or SSLC plus ITI certificate from recognized institutions of NCVT or SCVT in the trades of fitter, electrician, instrument mechanic, millwright/maintenance mechanic, mechanic (radio and tv). electronics mechanic, mechanic (motor vehicle), wireman, tractor mechanic, armature and coil winder, mechanic (diesel), heat engine, turner, machinist, refrigeration and air-conditioning mechanic.

- Candidates must have Class 10 or SSLC plus Course Completed Act Apprenticeship in the trades mentioned above.

- Candidates must have Class 10 or SSLC plus three years diploma in mechanical or electrical or automobile engineering or combination of various streams of these engineering disciplines from a recognised Institution in lieu of ITI.
- Age of the candidate should be between 18 to 30 years.
RRB ALP Recruitment 2024: Overview
Through the RRB Assistant Loco Pilot Recruitment 2024, the Board is going to appoint eligible candidates through selection stages such as CBT I, CBT II, CBAT, and Document Verification. RRB ALP Exam Pattern 2024
The stage-wise exam pattern of RRB ALP is explained below:
RRB ALP First Stage CBT
- This stage is common for ALP & Technician posts and is qualifying in nature. This means the marks obtained in this stage will not be counted for final merit list
- The paper contains 75 objective type questions (MCQs) and total time given to complete the paper is 60 minutes
- Each question carries one mark, hence, the total mark of the paper is 75
- There is negative marking for incorrect answers, â…“ mark is deducted for wrong answer
RRB ALP Second Stage CBT
- Those who secure cut off marks in first stage CBT, get a call for second stage CBT
- This stage of the exam is divided into two parts-A and B
- Part A will have 100 questions and the total time is 90 minutes
- Part B will have 75 questions and the duration of the paper is 60 minutes
- There is negative marking for incorrect answers, â…“ mark is deducted for one wrong answer
- The marks obtained in Part A is used to shortlist candidates for further rounds of selection
- Part B is qualifying in nature
RRB ALP CBAT
- This stage is only for those candidates who have applied for Assistant Loco Pilots
- Question papers are made available in both English and Hindi
- There are five test batters, candidates need to score certain marks in each test battery to qualify the exam
- The total marks allotted to this stage is 42 marks
RRB ALP Document Verification
- For ALP post, shortlisting for Document Verification is done based on Part A of CBT 2 provided candidates qualify Part B and CBAT
- For Technician post, shortlisting for Document Verification is done based on Part A of CBT 2 provided candidates qualify Part B
- Candidates need to carry the original documents asked by RRBs on the day of document verification
- If any candidate fails to submit original documents or if any document is found fake, the candidature of that candidate is canceled

RRB ALP Application Form 2024
RRB ALP 2024 application form was released online on January 20, 2024, by RRBs. Candidates can apply for the exam by paying the required fees both online and offline. The application fee is INR 500 for General and OBC categories while it is INR 250 for SC/ST/Ex-Serviceman/Female/Transgender/Minorities/Economically backward class.

RRB ALP Syllabus CBT 2
The syllabus for CBT 2 comprises two parts-A and B. The syllabus for both the parts is given below:
Part A
Mathematics: Number system, BODMAS, Decimals, Fractions, LCM, HCF, Ratio and Proportion, Percentages, Mensuration, Time and Work; Time and Distance, Simple and Compound Interest, Profit and Loss, Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry, Elementary Statistics, Square Root, Age Calculations, Calendar & Clock, Pipes & Cistern etc.
General Intelligence and Reasoning: Analogies, Alphabetical and Number Series, Coding and Decoding, Mathematical operations, Relationships, Syllogism, Jumbling, Venn Diagram, Data Interpretation and Sufficiency, Conclusions and decision making, Similarities and differences, Analytical reasoning, Classification, Directions, Statement – Arguments and Assumptions etc.
Basic Science and Engineering: The broad topics that are covered under this shall be Engineering Drawing (Projections, Views, Drawing Instruments, Lines, Geometric figures, Symbolic Representation), Units, Measurements, Mass Weight and Density, Work Power and Energy, Speed and Velocity, Heat and Temperature, Basic Electricity, Levers and Simple Machines, Occupational Safety and Health, Environment Education, IT Literacy etc.
General Awareness: Current Affairs in Science & Technology, Sports, Culture, Personalities, Economics, Politics and any other subjects of importance.
Part B
The questions in this part are asked from the trade syllabus prescribed by Director General of Employment & Training (DGET). Candidates with ITI/Trade Apprenticeship qualification will be required to appear in the section having questions from the relevant trade. Candidates holding Degree, Diploma and HSC (10+2) having eligibility for the posts of ALP have to select relevant trade from the list of trades listed against their engineering discipline/HSC (10+2).

RRB ALP exam has three stages –
- RRB ALP First Stage CBT
- RRB ALP Second Stage CBT
- RRB ALP CBAT

RRB ALP Preparation- First Stage CBT
The first thing all candidates need to do is getting their hands on RRB ALP syllabus. The first stage is an MCQ based online test, the major topics covered in the exam would be from mathematics, General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Science, Basic Science, General awareness & current affairs. Candidates must be aware of RRB ALP exam pattern so as to make a better understanding of the overall exam.
Find the best books for each subject and develop fundamentals and clear concepts. This will be helpful in answering the questions. Solving previous years’ questions from the practice books available in the market will help in the type of questions being asked in the exam and also it will boost confidence. Try to focus on completing the entire syllabus within the scheduled time and then continue with your practice
RRB ALP Preparation- Second Stage CBT
The second stage exam is also a computer-based objective test which includes topics like mathematics, General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Science, Basic Science and Engineering, General awareness & current affairs. For this stage as well, candidates have to focus mainly on syllabus and practice. As it has been seen that the syllabus of second stage CBT is a lot similar to the first stage CBT, candidates can utilize the time on practicing more number of questions along with revising the topics. Candidates can opt for online mock test series that are great help in RRB ALP preparation.
RRB ALP Preparation- Third Stage CBT
This stage is primarily focused on the practical knowledge of the candidates. There are practice materials available in market, candidates must practice them several times before the final examination.
RRB ALP Cutoff
RRBs release the separate list of the RRB ALP cut off for Assistant Loco Pilot and Technician as per zone-wise and category-wise. Candidates must obtain the minimum RRB ALP cut off marks in each stage so as to clear the exam. Besides, candidates need to secure the qualifying marks prescribed for different stages of recruitment.
