M.Tech. (Polymer Science)Master of Technology in Polymer Science
Polymer science is a subset of material science/engineering with polymer chemistry, polymer physics and polymer characterization being the main sub disciplines of this field of research. This science has allowed for various products in the markets like elastomers and plastics. The M.Tech program in Polymer Science and Technology is a unique course that builds over the basic material science course. The main purpose of this program is to impart knowledge train students to meet the constantly expanding requirements of the polymer and polymer based allied industries. Students from various backgrounds including Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Petroleum Science, Textile Engineering, Polymer Science & technology, Chemistry and Physics normally take up this program to further enhance their knowledge and focus on the research topic of their choice.. Additionally, the students are required to undertake a thesis project work from the 3rd semester onwards. The course is designed in such a way that the candidates become equipped for taking up challenges in production techniques and research and development needs in the ever advancing polymer technology industry. The course structure emphasizes equal importance on the basic sciences and specialized courses on polymer science and technology. Some of the courses include Polymer Physics and Chemistry, Coatings and adhesives, Polymer properties, rubber technology, Ploymer Characterization and Technology, processing polymer products, Polymer testing, Alloys, Blends, Research methodologies and more. Graduates of this specialized course often find themselves advancing their career and working in advanced government labs or pursuing M. Tech programs. Many graduates become educators, teaching as professors and lectures in colleges and universities.
