The Chairman emirates Arutchelvar Dr.N.Mahalingam Ayya vision is enlighten the knowledge and skill on the modern farming technology to the young people who can take up agriculture profitably with enhanced productivity and sustainability by conserving the natural resources like land, water and ecosystem. With the support of Dr.B.K.Krishnaraj Vanavarayar, this institute is managed and guided by Dr.M.Manickam, Chairman, Mrs.K.Karpakavalli,Correspondent and Professor C.Ramaswamy, Secretary. Vanavarayar Institute of Agriculture was established in Manakkadavu village in 2007.The college is situated 19 kms away from Pollachi in an area of 250 acres having good water resources throughout the year. Our college is affiliated to TNAU Coimbatore. At present the VIA offers four year professional B.Sc (Agri.) degree course and two year Diploma in Agriculture course with a sanctioned strength of 120 in B.Sc. (Agri.) and 50 in Diploma in Agriculture. The total student strength of VIA is 697.Out of which 400 are girls. The college has 39 teaching staff, 26 supporting staff and four administrative staff. The academic structure has been defined including Professor (Academic & Welfare activities), Academic Coordinator and Programme coordinator for all the years of Undergraduate and Diploma programmes. There are nine Heads of Departments viz., Horticulture, Crop Management, Plant Breeding and Genetics, Agronomy, Soil Science, Agricultural Engineering,Crop Protection, Social Science and Physical education. A striking feature of VIA is the availability of ambient aura and alluring infrastructure provided for both students and faculty. Fully furnished and well equipped laboratories decorate every department in the college. All the class rooms are highly ventilated and mounted with advanced LCD projectors to enrich the students skills. The VIA library spreads in an area of more than 4500 sq. feet with more than 5000 numbers of specialized books, journals and other resources ranging from printed books, e-books and back volumes. The library also subscribes to national and international journals in print and e-media. The language laboratory is well- equipped with 45 computers with ?Clarity English? software which aid in the development of LSRW skills in English. This helps to train the students who appear for TOEFL, IELTS, GRE and other competitive examinations. The college also has separate computer laboratory with 42 systems which plays a vital role by promoting fundamentals and applied aspects of information technology. Transportation facilities are also available in college for day scholar students. An effective placement cell helps the students for better placements and it acts as a bridge between the institution and the firms to recruit fresh talents. Hostels are provided for both girls and boys. The health centre with regular visiting doctor is also available to attend the medical needs of the students. The Students club (SGS) has also been formed to build leadership and team building skills of the students. The SGS club is responsible for the stream of activities and events in the college. The campus also provides blue-topped canteen for the foodies which serve healthy and fast foods. Also, VIA offers a ragging free campus. The senior students of the campus have been adequately appraised on the Anti-Ragging acts. The college is also blessed with ample features for sports to achieve and healthier lifestyle. All kinds of sports and games help the students to maintain fitness and develop a competitive spirit. A sum of Rs.28.08 Lakhs was sanctioned by DST, New Delhi for the project entitled ?Long term effect of Biochar on soil health and sustainable crop production in maize-mycorrhizal system?. Research Project on ?Establishment of coconut business incubator and their FPO formation? has been established in VIA in collaboration with CPCRI with the total financial outlay is 75.5 lakhs. In NSS unit of VIA, student volunteers are being engaged in various social and welfare activities in all the villages of Pollachi Block. More than 35 students of 2011 batch of VIA has got selected for PG in various campuses of TNAU. Also 22 students of 2011 batch got good ranks in banking service examinations
