Udalguri came into existence on the 20th day of August, 1979as a result of the ceaseless and untiring efforts of the preparatory committee under the Secretaryship of Sri Sailendra Nath Brahma and some noted social workers of the area.It was established to cater to the academic needs of the people of greater Udalguri area which then was a backward area with no access to higher education. Initially started with the enrolment of 42 students at Boro Harimu Afat Bhavan, near the site where the present Weekly Market is located, Udalguri College is now situated at Goraibari around 3kms to the South of Udalguri Town adjacent to Udalguri Kharupetia road. The total land under the possession of the College is 30 Bighas with one two storied building and 5 Assam type buildings and temporary structures. It has 25 permanent class rooms and 7 temporary class rooms. It has a separate Library building and a lush green field covering 7000 sq feet. Close to the playground is a Botanical garden which has a diverse collection of plants. Moreover the College too has a pond measuring 3.5 Bighas close to the Girls Hostel of the College. The enrolment position of the College now is around 2300 with 67 Teaching Staff (Sanctioned, Non-Sanctioned & Contractual) who cater to their educational aspirations. There are 4 Library Staff while and 17 Non-Teaching Staff(Sanctioned & Non-Sanctioned).The College offers Major Courses in Assamese, Bodo, Economics, Education, English, History, Philosophy and Political science in the Arts stream while students of the Science Stream can take Major in Botany and Zoology .Of Course Pass courses are offered in all the above mentioned subjects as well as Chemistry Mathematics, Nepali and Physics.
