Tura Government College was established on 9th September, 1958 to meet the aspirations of the youth of the region for attaining higher education. The College was born out of the far sighted and clear vision of the prominent citizens of Garo Hills for the benefit and future development of its people. Mody K. Marak, Harrison W. Momin, Rangam G. Momin, Ranjit S. Marak, Suresh Das, Dolbir Lohar, Rabilal Jaisi, and Mrs.Sodini G. Momin under the patronage of (L) Capt. Williamson A. Sangma, former Chief Minister of Meghalaya were the visionary leaders who founded the college. The college was provincialised in July 1967 by Government of Assam. Since its inception, the college has served its purpose of providing quality higher education for the people of Garo Hills. This premier institute of learning offers courses under Graduate Hounours Courses. Located at the heart of the calm and peaceful town of Tura, the College has a sprawling campus with a spacious playground, a basket ball court, hostel accommodation for boys and girls and residential quarters for faculty members. The teaching faculty comprises of a team of qualified, dedicated and competent teachers. In the course of imparting over 50 years of quality education, the college has produced eminent citizens of Meghalaya in different walks of life and professions. At Tura Govt. College, the students will be guided and motivated to realize their dreams and be transformed into complete and responsible social beings so they can contribute towards the socio-economic upliftment of the region as well as building the nation.
