Sri Velagapudi Ramakrishna Government Degree College for Men

Sri Velagapudi Ramakrishna Govt. Degree College for Men was established in the year 1971 at Nidadavole. The College is affiliated to the Andhra University. The Lions club as well as the people of Nidadavole town donated funds liberally for its establishment. Dr. B.V.L.N.Raju, the founder president of the college committee and Sri Venkata Ratnam, the founder secretary of the college committee strived hard for the sanction of the college. As a result of their hard work and persuasion the college was sanctioned vide G.O.M.S.No 147 Edn Dated 16-09-1971 with 41 years of standing. At the beginning B.A. and B.Com courses were sanctioned in the year 1971 and subsequently B.Sc courses (MPC &CBZ) were sanctioned in the year 1976 and B.Sc computer course was sanctioned in the year 2004. In its maiden days the college was run under the roof of Govt. Junior College, Nidadavole. With a strong desire to have own Buildings for the college Sri Venkata Ratnam (Secretary, College Committee) made unrelenting efforts to secure land (9 acres and 68 cents) for the construction of the buildings. Smt. Rajeswari Ramakrishna, Managing Director of the V.V.S.Sugars and Cane growers donated a huge amount for the construction of the present Buildings. In all gratitude for the help she has been extending from time to time to the college, the college was very appropriately named after her dear father Sri Ramakrishna and came to be called S.V.R.K. Govt. Degree College. The college was shifted from Govt. Junior College to its newly constructed buildings in the year 1977.The V.V.S.Sugars, Chagallu donated funds for a cycle shed, additional class rooms and an open air auditorium which were constructed under the able supervision of Dr. Raja rao garu and sri S.Subba rao garu, the then college committee secretary. In Nidadavole of West Godavari District, being a Government Educational Institution, a quite good number of various categories of students such as economically backward, scheduled castes, Scheduled Tribes, backward classes join this college to pursue higher studies. Since its inception the college has been catering to the educational needs of both boys and girl students of Nidadavole and its neighboring villages. With dedicated principals and committed staff, the college has been producing a good number of doctors, engineers, Post graduates and thousands of graduates. The college is well known for its education, strict discipline and high standards. Restructured courses were introduced keeping in view of the changing trends in higher education and various opportunities for employment. Now the college offers instruction in computer subject. Thus this Degree College is an educational institution with distinctive characteristics.
