Smt.Veeramma Gangasiri College for Women was established in 1965, with a view to impart education to the women of this backward region. The great visionary Late Shri. Mahadevappa Rampure, was a man with a mission, he had a great foresight and worked with great missionary zeal whole of his life. He was an efficient social organizer with innovative ideas for a positive social change with prospective plans. In course of his social concern towards the conservative agrarian society, he plunged into the eradication of ignorance, poverty, blind beliefs and problems of marginalized class. In bringing about the necessary social changes, Rampure felt that a women is always a step ahead of man in the domain of culture, tradition etc. He realized that, it is an educated, enlightened woman who really educates the family. The women of this region were deprived of higher education. Even during the early 19th century when a few women began to break the barriers of tradition to pursue education, their strength was too small to merit attention. Most of them were satisfied with the limited goal of being good house wives. It was only at the end of 19th century in the western world, women managed to catch up with men in the field of general education and by the early 20th century they almost were with men in the fields of professional education. Thus women were more attracted towards career and employment.
