Prof. Sayed Nurul Hassan College

A long cherished aspiration and dream of the inhabitants of Farakka and its adjacent administrative blocks came into light with the setting up of our college in the year 1994. Foundation laying ceremony took place on the 15th January' 94, and within a short span of only eight months Prof. Sayed Nurul Hasan College was inaugurated by the then Governor of West Bengal, Hon'ble K. V. Rahgunath Reddy on 3rd October, 1994. Who, in astonishment remarked that he could not imagine such an enthusiastic and mammoth gathering in an inauguration programme of a college. In fact people from all walks of life gathered behind setting up of this educational institution. We received 10 acres of land in an ideal location by the side of N.H.-34, from the Farakka Barrage authority on the basis of long term lease. Name of this college was chosen by the organizing committee, which consisted of D.M., S.D.O., G.M. / FBP, G.M. / NTPC and Ex-M.P.(Jangipur Constituecy) Mr. Abul Hasnat Khan after the name of Prof. Syed Nurul Hasan who died few months back. He was an eminent scholar, world famous historian, advocate of progressive and secular ideology, adorned many posts of national repute. We are proud to have our college after his name. We received whole hearted support, financial and material help from a large section of people to achieve our goal. From its inception we are moving forward step by step. Starting with only two lady lecturers and a few subjects now we have been able to start honours courses in Bengali, Sociology, Geography, History, English, Education, Economics & Pol. Science & General course of study in Arabic, Computer Science & Physical Education. In respect of academic performance we are proud to note that we have been achieving good result in the University examinations. Discipline and peaceful atmosphere of the college are unique one. Unlike the other colleges, students are united for the betterment of leering and advancement of the college. The college Governing Body, in spite of its financial stringency is striving to fulfill the minimum requirements of student's needs, we are carefully trying to promote sports and cultural activities. Performances of the students in these fields are praiseworthy. Now we provide Gymnasium for boys & girls separately, Canteen, Cycle stand facility etc. Though within a period of 18th years our unabated advancement is remarkable but we are not complacent. We always bear in mind that we have to go a long way to achieve out goal with strong will, persevere and united efforts. In this noble path we seek co-operation from all sections of people of this area.
