Late. Sri. P. N. Panicker was a great soul, a driving force behind mass library movement in Kerala. His birthday, March 1st is being celebrated as Social Activity Day. June 19th, the day he left us is observed as Reading Day in Kerala (Vayanadinam). Sri. P.N. Panicker worked as Elected General Secretary of Kerala Granda Shala Sangam for 32 years. In 1977 he formed KANFED and spread its units all over Kerala. ?Read & Grow? was his Slogan. For that he installed libraries in many villages through the propagation by KANFED, which has got sixty units in Kasaragod district. In 1993, an institution by name and style ?Souhruda Grama Samithi? was established by him.
