In recognition of the diverse career options of NIMT-trained pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists, our curriculum provides a broad-base education that has a strong foundation in biomedical and pharmaceutical sciences. This foundation in the sciences serves as a basis for the development of clinical skills in areas of pharmacy practice that are patient oriented. In a nutshell, the curriculum focuses on the Drug, the Product and the Patient. Under modules about the Drug, students learn to integrate how the properties of a drug molecule impact its pharmacokinetic profile and how changes in physicochemical properties of a drug molecule modify its biotransformation. The Product modules provide an integrated overview of the health product development process, with a focus on patient-user safety. Under modules about the Patient, students learn about the structure, functions, disease states of and drug effects on the human body before acquiring the essential skills to manage health products for the best patient-user outcome. Overall, students acquire a sound foundation in scientific knowledge, a high level of core competencies in pharmacy practice, professional ethics and work attitude, and generic skills for life-long employability.
