Mata Jijabai Govt. Girls P.G. College, Indore came into existence in 1952 as an Inter college and awarded the status of Degree College in 1956. This college is an old and well-reputed college of M.P. It has Arts, Science, Commerce and Home Science faculties. At present the college has 21 Post Graduate departments providing research facilities; it is spread over an area of 17.33 acres and has beautiful and lush green campus. There are four two storied buildings, hostels, two big playgrounds, library, canteen, cycle stand and a well spread and maintained Botanical garden. The Infrastructure of the college is fully utilized from 8.40 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. for running the classes of different facilities. The prime aim of the college is to educate female students and their all round personality development. To enhance their personality they are exposed to wide variety of academic as well as extracurricular activities. The college has a galaxy of highly qualified, competent and experienced teachers who are not only well versed in their subjects but have vision to shape the personality of the budding scholars. The teachers perform their teaching work according to the academic calendar and complete the prescribed syllabi well in time. One important landmark was the beginning of AUTONOMY in 1998 at P.G. level. Students are admitted to P.G. Classes in 21 different Post-Graduate departments. With the introduction of semester system in 2008, we have two semester exams per session last years' P.G. results reflect the success story of autonomy. M.Sc. in Computer Science and Biochemistry has encouraged a number of girls to opt for these courses. B. Lib is also started from 2012-13. It is noteworthy that U.G.C. review committee has extended the autonomy up to 2015. National seminars have been organized by various departments like English, Chemistry, Mathematics, Philosophy etc. recently. The extracurricular activities available in the college include Cultural activities, NCC and units, competitions in Games and Sports. Cultural activities like dance, drama, music quiz-contests and other such competitions are frequently organized to explore and develop the talents of the students in their respective fields. Incentives in the form of medals, color, prizes etc. are given to encourage the students. Under N.S.S. activities NSS Camp, blood donation, cleanliness and tree plantation work is performed. The college has various facilities like career guidance, health guidance, scholarships for different categories, internet facilities for reference work, and assistance for the visually handicapped. With its status of being the lead college of the district it has been a centre for all the online activities for the higher education department of the state.
