Mariani College was established in 1966 by the sincerest initiatives of a good numbers of benevolent public and educationists of greater Mariani. There was not a single college at that time in entire Mariani constituency. Students had to go to Jorhat-20 km. distance from Mariani. Most of the girl-students and students from poor communities had to leave their studies after passing High School Leaving Certificate Examination due to the distance factor and financial involvement required for their higher studies. It was the public of Mariani who decided to establish a college to cater the need of higher education. Only because of their endeavors the dream of establishing a college in Mariani came into reality. The establishment of Mariani College is a very vital and important addition in the academic scenario of Mariani specially in imparting higher education.
