Mar Dionysius College is at Pazhanji - a small village with beautiful and serene landscape, 6 km away from Kunnamkulam muncipal town and 14 km away from the Guruvayoor railway station. The village prides itself with unique cultural tradition. The entire village is still made richer by its proximity to various churches, temples and mosques. M.D College, Pazhanji in Thrissur district affiliated to the University of Calicut was formerly inagurated on 16th December 1982 under the Educational Agency of His Holiness Baselius Marthoma Mathews I, Catholicos of the East and Malankara Metropolitan, representing the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. The college is established in memory of Late His Grace Pulikottil Joseph Mar Dionysius Metropolitan, founder of the Orthodox Theological Seminary, Kottayam. The college was started functioning as a junior college in the Sunday School building of St. Mary's Orthodox Syrian Church, Pazhanji steadily emerged up with its constant heavenly blessings. In the beginning there were only two batches in the pre-degree, one each in Arts and Commerce. In 1982, the present college site at Aruvai was acquired and the construction of a permanent building was immediately begun on 13.5 acres of land with lush green surroundings. Thus a long cherished dream of the people in and around Pazhanji and the Orthodox Church in particular came to be fruitful on 13th March 1985.
