Kasturba Nursing College

In 1973 Kasturba Nursing School was established by the Kasturba Health Society, Sevagram. A General Nursing and Midwifery training course of three and half years duration was started. In the beginning, ten students were admitted every six months and from 1977, 20 students were admitted yearly. Presently the school admits 40 students every year. Steps have been taken for the further progress. The Kasturba Nursing College was started in the year 1997 in a spacious building constructed out of donation given by Urmiladevi Laxmiprasad Poddar. Foundation Stone of this building was laid by Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma, when he was the Vice President of India in the year 1990 and he himself inaugurated the NursingCollege building as the President of India in the year 1993. The Kasturba Health Society received permission to start the Kasturba nursing college on ?No Grant? basis. Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing (2 years degree programme) was started in 1997, with intake capacity of 10 seats. It was affiliated to NagpurUniversity. Since 1998, this degree course has been affiliated to the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik. The intake capacity has been increased from 10 to 20 from the academic year 2007-2008. Basic B.Sc. Nursing course was added in 2008-09 with an intake capacity of 40 students, and M.Sc. Nursing started in 2011 with an intake capacity of 20 students ? 5 each in four specialties. The College is attached to Kasturba Hospital, Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Sevagram. The students get good experience in theory as well as clinical areas.
