IIIT is the generic name for several Institutes of Information Technology in India, each a mini university in itself. The Indian Institute of Information Technology Allahabad (IIIT-A) was established in 1999, as a centre of excellence in Information Technology and allied areas. The institute was conferred the "Deemed University" status by Govt. of India in the year 2000. The Institute thus became empowered to have a perpetual seal and award degrees subsequent to the conduct of its own examinations. The institute owes its existence to the vision and untiring efforts of Hon'ble Prof. Murli Manohar Joshi, Union Minister of Human Resource Development, Science and Technology and Ocean Development, GoI. The beautiful 100 acre campus, situated at Deoghat, Jhalwa is designed meticulously on the Penrose Geometry pattern (styled on patterns developed by internationally acclaimed scholar and mathematician, Roger Penrose). The institute is established on the outskirts of Allahabad. The grading system is broadly based on the pattern of other IITs. A video conferencing facility for networking with leading institutions in India as well as abroad is also in the works. The campus-based Gyan Vani regularly broadcasts educational programming. Besides the B. Tech. program, the institute also offers M. Tech. in Bioinformatics, Wireless Communication, Software Engineering and Intelligent Systems and MBA (IT), Master of Science in Cyber Law and Information Security and Doctoral degrees. The graduate students have access to the highest levels of industrial training, project experience and expert instruction. B.Tech program which is currently offered through AIEEE. In M.Tech program admission is offered through special admission tests and interviews conducted by the institute for the candidates having valid GATE score. A few seats are also reserved for industry sponsored candidates for whom GATE score is not mandatory. Apart from these MBA(IT) program and Master?s program in Cyber law and Information Security are also provided. Computers are issued to all students by the Maintenance Cell, immediately upon their arrival and on possession of Identity Cards.
