The history of the college is like a sacred pilgrimage into the past and embodies in itself a tale of two cities. The college was established at Gujranwala ( now in Pakistan) in 1917 and its foundation stone was laid by Sikh Divine Saint 'Sant Attar Singh Ji'.
Since its inception the college has been under the stewardship of distinguished educationists. Mr. Moore, an Englishman, became the founder Principal. Later Sant Teja Singh, M.A. (Harvard), a divine soul, and much-revered Bhai Jodh Singh guided the destiny of the college. The un interrupted tenure of Bawa Harkrishan Singh from 1921- 47 turned out to be the golden era of the institution. It is a matter of honour for us that men of the caliber of Prof. Kirpal Singh Narang, Dr. Karam Singh Gill, Dr. J. S. Grewal & Prof. Prithipal Singh Kapur who rose to be Vice Chancellors and pro Vice-Chancellor, served on our faculty, After the partition of 1947, the college was resurrected in Civil Lines Ludhiana, where it started functioning from May 25, 1953.
