The Government Postgraduate College Obra, District Sonebhadra (U.P) was established in1982 by the U.P. Government. The College is located on 22.5 Acres of Land with a boundary wall in Rural-Tribal area. The College is already recognized by the UGC under 2(f) and sec 12B. At present the college offers 03 Undergraduate programmes in Arts, Science and Commerce ,07 Postgraduate( Physics, Chemistry, Hindi, Political Science, History, Sociology and Economics) and 04 subjects( Physics, Chemistry, History & Hindi ) for Ph. D. There are total 13 Departments in the college. The college enrolled 3261UG and 592 PG students on its rolls during the current academic session, 2006-2007. The dropout rate is 7.38 percent in UG and 1.38 percent in PG. The present staff strength is 14 permanent (11 Male + 03 Female) and 06 temporary Faculty including 01 Female. The non-teaching staff consists of 11 members + 03 Technical Assistants. Teacher student ratio is 1:183. The unit cost of the education is Rs. 2011.56/- (Including Salary). The college observes 220 working days out of which 180 are teaching days. The college works from 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. The college has annual system of examination. The Government Postgraduate College Obra, District Sonebhadra (U.P) affiliated to VBS Poorvanchal University, Jaunpur has volunteered to be assessed and accredited by NAAC Bangalore and submitted the self study report to NAAC giving various activities of the institute under seven criteria laid down by NAAC. Accordingly the peer team, comprising Professor R.C. Pant, Former Vice-Chancellor, Kumaun University as Chairperson, Professor M.M. Goel, Department of Economics, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra as Member Co-ordinator and Professor S.R.Jain, Chief Education Officer S.S. Jain Subodh Siksha Samathi Jaipur as Member was constituted by NAAC to visit and validate the claims of the college. The team visited the college from 19th to 21st February, 2007. The peer team carefully perused and analyzed the Self Study Report of the college. The team verified the relevant documents to validate the information provided by the college and interacted with the Principal, faculty members, Alumni, non-teaching staff, students and the parents. The team interacted with all the faculty members and visited library, computer lab, playgrounds, and other support services. Based on the above exercise and inputs provided during the visit and interaction with various stakeholders, the following report is presented.
