Government Girls PG College of Excellence

The college was started with founder Principal "Smt. Maltibai Shrikhande", in the year 1963 with a strength of only 10 students. This institution was smoothly run by a society of reputed personalities under the chairmanship of Shri Dalchandji Jain, a well known social worker and recognized industrialist of the city. Later on in the year 1965, the college was handed over to the Sagar Municipality and was permitted to run in the building named as "Town Hall". In the year 1978, the college was taken over by the State Government in the regime of Shri Laxmi Narayan Yadav, then Minister of Higher Education M.P. Bhopal. Besides Arts, Science, Home Science and Commerce faculties were also started in the best interest of the girls alongwith Post graduate courses in the year 1982. At present in the year 2001 the total 2621 students were enrolled in different disciplines at U.G. & P.G. levels, P. G. courses are run in ten different disciplines. there are 52 teachers in the college out of which 90% are P.h.D holders. Indispensable participation of student are seen with enthusiastic vigour to promote the academic and cultural activities. Various awards have been obtained by the students of this college by participating in youth festivals. College magazine is published by the institution in which participation of students in the form of creative articles are encouraged. The college is proud of the cadets of N.C.C. and N.S.S. who represented the college and M. P. State in Republic Day Pared New Delhi. Project like Social Service, literacy and Cleanliness are being completed every year by organizing N.S.S. camps in different locations of sagar . Students have also earned prestigious honour by taking active part in various activities of Sports at University, State and National level. The College students have also created a healthy environment of academic nature by taking active part in seminars, symposia and workshops organised at college and university level. Meritorious performance of students have also been observed in university exams every year which is an indicator of academic achievement . More than 20000 Books and some important and relevant Journals and Periodicals are available in the college library. Immense help has been given by the U.G.C. New Delhi during 7th , 8th ,9th & 10th plan period. A good Library, lecturer Halls, Hostel building , books, equipments etc are made available with the assistance of U.G.C. schemes. Computer Application as a subject at U.G. levels in Arts, Commerce and Science faculties are also being run with the financial assistance of U.G.C. during IXth Plan of Commission, A new course "Early Childhood Care Education" has also been sanctioned by the commission to run in the Faculty of Arts w.e.f. 2002-03 academic session. Janbhagidari Samiti of the college has been established with the permission of Govt. of M. P. . Need based Furniture?s, Hostel, Laboratory, Books, Equipments and Electrifications etc have been managed by Janbhagidari funds in the institution. This institution is permanently affiliated to Dr. Harisingh Gour Vishwavidyalaya, Sagar (M.P.) for traditional, vocational and professional courses. Commission has recognized this institution under 2f on 24.11.84 and 12B on 2.3.1989. In view of the performance and other criteria fulfilled by the college, U.G.C., State Govt. and affiliating university have conferred the autonomous status from 2002 to 2007 in first phace. State Govt. has choosen this women college to develop as an excellent college to achieve the target till date 30 lacks have been released for different developmental process. The rest amount i.e. 50 lacks are yet to be disbursed by the govt. As per direction the college is run through the scheme of semester system which includes internal assessments, semester exam & feedback for continuous evolution of students. Computer awareness and environmental education are made compulsory at under graduate level. To fulfill the goals of autonomy, in addition to courses approved by Central Board of Studies, Bhopal and affiliating university, some professional courses like Fashion Designing, Web Designing and Office Automation & Tourism have been approved under the career oriented programe of Xth Plan of U.G.C. , are being runing successfully. This is only Govt. managed women?s institution in Sagar district with adequate infrastructural facilities and 40 bed Hostel , constructed according to norms fixed by U.G.C. Delhi. The college has every possibility to be developed as deemed university for women?s eduction in the region.
