Government Girls College

Govt. Girls College, Katni, is situated in the heart of the city between Nagar Nigam and Mission Chowk. The code of the College is 3311. The College belongs to Urban Area. The name of the Additional Director is Prof. Dr. K.L. Jain, Higher Education Department, Jabalpur & Sagar Division, Pachperi, Jabalpur (M. P.). Govt. Girls College, Katni, was established in 1967 as a private college by Katni Shiksha Parishad. Govt. Girls College was taken over by the Government of Madhya Pradesh on 1 October 1982. The College is affiliated to Rani Durgawati University, Jabalpur. Sports & Library facility are available to the students. Although the College was established in 1967 and was taken over by Madhya Pradesh Higher Education Department in 1982 but the status of the college was not changed for long time. Considering the demand of students, Higher Education Department permitted to start M.A. in Hindi. Science and Home Science faculties were also started. In 2001-2002 M.A. in Sociology and B.Com First Year were started by Janbhagidari Samiti under the self financing scheme. Even then looking to the demands of students and local guardians it was not sufficient to educate the girls of the town and satisfy their demands, hence in 2003-2004 again under the self finance scheme the college got the permission from the Higher Education Department to start P.G. classes in Arts and Science and after the inspection of affiliation committee of Jabalpur University in the month of November 2003, we started M.Sc. in Botany, Zoology, Chemistry and Physics and M.A. in Political Science, Sociology and Economics. Although we have got the permission English, Mathematics and History too but due to lack of space and accommodation we did not start them. From the year 2006-07, the college got permission to run Geography as an optional subject in B.A. We are also pleased to start M.Com. classes in this college. The year 2006-07 is auspicious for us because we got 'B' Grade after getting NAAC Peer Team visit on 16,17 and 18 January 2007. The college was given permission to start B.Sc (Computer Science, Microbiology & Biotechnology) and B.Com (Computer Application) from year 2007-08.
