The Government Engineering College, Idukki (GECI) was established in 2000 under the Directorate of Technical Education Government of Kerala. The college is currrently affiliated to Kerala Technological University and is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi. The scenic 25-acre (100,000 m2) campus is located at Kuyilimala, Painavu, the headquarters of the Idukki district. The campus is a two-hour road journey from Thodupuzha or Kothamangalam (co-ordinates: 9?50'52"N 76?56'32"E). The campus is situated near state highway 55 from Thodupuzha to Kattapana. Painavu is 120 km from Cochin and 110 km from Kottayam and is connected by bus to all parts of the state. The cool and picturesque environs of the Idukki wildlife sanctuary located in close proximity to the campus is ideal for the pursuit of higher education. The Idukki Dam is just 7 km from the campus.
