Government Dental College & Hospital Vijaywada

Govt. Dental College & Hospital, Vijayawada was established in the year 1992 with 40 admissions for the academic year 1992 ? 93 as University of Health Sciences Dental College at Vijayawada, A.P. by Dr. N, T. R. university of Health Sciences, Andhra Pradesh with the permission of Dental Council of India and Govt. of India. The College functioned in two places. Main Dental Hospital along with administrative block (about 24, 000 sq. ft.) was at Old Bus stand premises and the pre clinical depts. (16,000 sq.ft) were functioning at Govt. Siddhartha Medical College, Gunadala, Vijayawada which are about 6 Kms. distance. The Institute was later handed over to the Government of Andhra Pradesh in the year 2000 along with Siddhartha Medical College. During the year 2008, the College was shifted to a new campus building in Machavaram (Gunadala) Vijayawada on the auspicious occasion of UGADI (Telugu new Year) which was constructed in an area of 5 acres land in the Siddhartha Medical College campus. The new building was inaugurated by our then chief minister Late Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhar Reddy along with Boys and Girls Hostels The total area of the new building is around 70, 000 sq.ft. which is housing main Dental Hospital, along with clinical and pre clinical depts., administrative block, Lecture Halls and Library. A Special clinic for Senior citizens and Physically challenged patients was established with the contribution of constituency development funds from Sri Sk. Nazar Vali, MLA, Vijayawada (West). A minor O.T. in the dept. of Oral surgery was also equipped with his kind contribution. We are working out on a proposal to Indian Dental Association for starting a Continuing Dental Education Training Centre, where in the ida will provide 20 Phantom Heads along with necessary infrastructure to provide training facilities for young Dentists and General Practioners in Cosmetic Dentisty and Endodontics etc. Starting of Post Graduate Courses at Govt. Dental College & Hospital, Vijayawada will enable us to provide Root Canal treatment for Molars, Inlays, Onlays, Crowns & Bridges, Cast Metal restorations and other Major Surgical procedures etc. for the General public.
