Government Degree College

Govt. Degree College, Tekkali is the first Degree College started in Tekkali Revenue Division under Govt. sector in 1971 with B.A. and B.Com. sections. B.Sc MPC and B.Sc ZBC (12 seats each) were started in 1975 in Canadian Baptist Bunglow. Another two sections were started in English Medium one each in B.A., & B.Com. for Odiya linguistic minorities. The Tekkali Division Education Society (TDES) was formed under the able leadership of Dr.Major. T.Joga Rao, Dr.M.Rama Rao, Sri K.Kodanda Rao, Sri Surya Rao, Sri S.Lokanadham Naidu, Ex ? M.L.A. and many other eminent personalities. Sri.B.Raja Gopala Rao, Ex ? M.P. has rendered much service for the development of this college. 20 acres of land was acquired through a pacca sale deed to this college by the TDES. One pucca building was constructed in 1986 with Rs.20 lakh of Andhra Pradesh State Govt. funds. The Government Degree & P.G. College, Tekkali is the first Government Degree College offering science courses in Tekkali division. It was started in the year 1971 and has completed 41 fruitful years of its existence and proved to be a premier institution of the town offering conventional as well as diversified courses such as "restructured courses" catering to the educational needs of new millennium. Hence we adopt a symbol of POORNAKUMBH with a SUN RAY. The sun is the life giving force. Then comes water which provides sustenance to life. From water comes out the lovely lotus flower with out being touched by the murkiness of water. In blooming lotus symbolize all pervading knowledge and enlightenment, dispelling ignorance. The Poornakumbh a place on the blooming lotus is a harbinger of peace, prosperity and happiness. Govt. Degree College was proposed to cater the educational needs of the rural students. This college has permanent affiliation from Andhra University for B.A and B.Com and Temporary affiliation for B.Sc, groups. Govt. Degree College, Tekkali was recognized and included in 2 (f) and 12 (b) of UGC, New Delhi. Now Govt. Degree College, Tekkali has affiliated to Dr.B.R.Ambedkar University, Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh.
