On the extreme north costal area of the state Srikakulam,the district located enjoys the status of being the Crown of Andhra Pradesh topographically. The meandering river Nagavali flows tantalizingly through the town of Srikakulam. On the northern bank of the river Nagavali stands a palatial building with a hoary past, housing the Govt.Degree College for Men. The magnificent multi pillared edifices symbolize the magnitude of the dreams, hopes, aspirations and also the earning and the awakening of the people of this region over the last 50 years for a meaningful and purposeful higher education and its fulfillment. The Govt.Arts College, Srikakulam, the first and foremost college in the district was established in 1951 vide G.O.M.S.No1887 of the Madras government. It was granted affliliation by the Madras University as Arts college, Grade II with the introduction of the Intermediate courses in 1951 and later upgraded to Govt Degree college in 1954. With the introduction of under graduate courses. Our college has been Accredited by NAAC with B++ The college has its humble beginning, located in temporary sheds in 1951 and carried on thus until 1962 when it acquired its new look within permanent buildings, paving the way for its historic role in the dissemination of education in this remote,backward and beautuiful north coastal region of Andhra Pradesh.
