Before 1985, there was only one co-educational Degree College in Adilabad town. When the people of this area felt a need for the development of exclusive women education, the efforts of the town elite started for the establishment of this college. In that process, Government Degree College for Women came into existence on Feb 14th, 1985. It was originally started in the premises of Govt. Girl?s High School, Adilabad under the FAC Principalship of Sri G.Allabhaksh. Later, It was shifted into the present premises which had been the District Headquarter Hospital, Adilabad. It is in an area of 1.75 acres. It is situated in the heart of town opposite to the Head Post Office and I Town Police Station. Besides the old Building, the two floored South block building and the West block building have been newly constructed with the benevolent budget sanction of the Hon?ble Commissioner of Collegiate Education, Hyderabad. The UGC Women?s Hostel has been constructed in the College premises with the UGC grant of Rs. 1 Crore. At present, the college is affiliated to Kakatiya University, Warangal. The college has been recognized by the UGC under 2(f) and 12(B). The objective of this Institution is not only to dispel darkness from the minds of the women students, but also to promote in them the quest for realization of the ultimate truth through a systematic acquisition of knowledge related to various faculties. Ever since its inception in the year 1985, the college was nursed, nourished and nurtured by a galaxy of element educationalist who worked as Principal and faculty members over the years. Due to their relentless and untiring efforts, the institution has grown from strength-to-strength both in academics and infrastructure. Thus, realizing the dreams and aspirations of the teachers and the taught and commitment of the government this institution is serving the community effectively and efficiently through quality education. This college has seven Undergraduate -3 Conventional and 4 Restructured Self Financesides these courses, One month free certificate course in Spoken English is offered by this college. One month Certificate course in Commercial Garment Designing and Making is also offered. This college has regular Principal, 5 regular lecturers, Physical Director, 6 contract lecturers, 9 guest lecturers and 1 JKC mentor. The non-teaching wing of the college has one Senior Assistant, 1 guest Record Assistant, 2 Attenders and 2 part time contingent staff besides 6 temporary supporting staff. The undergraduate students strength is 416. The Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Listed Backward Class students contribute about 75% of the total admitted strength. Even the remaining 25% of students also belong to economically poor and under privileged sections of the society who are not well exposed to higher learning amenities. The output of the institution is fairly on par with the university average result percentage and this is possible only due to the consistent and persistent efforts put in by the Principal and the faculty. It being a university affiliated institution, the college follows annual University Exam system of Kakatiya University for the students at UG level. The college is conducting extension activities such as community development, AIDS awareness programs, medical camps etc under NSS and NCC. As far as support services are concerned, there is one central library, departmental libraries, and sports facilities, Gym, Sick room, Yoga and Meditation Center, Career Guidance Cell, Consumer club, Red Ribbon Club, Antiragging Committee, Woman empowerment cell, Internal compliance etc. are functioning in this college. The college and the departments have linkages with labs, institutions etc. Apart from NSS and NCC activities, community service is rendered regularly. The students of the college have made significant achievements in sports. The CPDC of the college, M.P., District Minister, Municipal Chairperson and the District Collector of Adilabad are showing keen interest in developing the college education. Te Commissioner of Collegiate Education, T.S., Hyderabad and the UGC-SERO, Hyderabad are very benevolent in releasing funds for the face lift of the college. The academicians who visited this institute include Vice- Chancellor, controller of Examinations, professors of various faculties of Kakatiya University and Osmania University, Commissioner of Collegiate Education, Regional Joint Director of Collegiate Education, Warangal, Members of the Academic Guidance Cell of the CCE, Hyderabad etc. The curriculum of this institution is designed to meet knowledge, skills, application and value addition. All these needs are fulfilled in the languages, optionals, general (physical, mental, social and fine arts) and personal areas. The total curriculum is aimed at the woman development in all these areas within a period of three years at Under Graduate level. This is the only Degree College for women under the government sector in Adilabad town catering to the educational needs of the backward and tribal students for the last three decades. the conventional and restructured self-finance courses of this college have inculcated in the students finer strength values, leadership and patriotism leading to the mass awareness and awakening in this region besides the awareness of the subjects concerned. The institutional curriculum has met the self-sustaining needs of the woman students and contributed scholars, rofessionals and othe employees to various fields of the society. With the result, the students equipped themselves to reflect the needs of developing India and its rogressing society. With the change of times, there is a sea change in the employment needs of the society. In tune with the changing times, the restructured courses were started in which the emphasis is on applied skills relevant to the employment needs. The traditional courses are not only meeting the employment needs of the women but also are building competence in them to lead dynamic and courageous life. The vision and mission ofthe institution are communicated to the students, teachers, staff and other stakeholders through various meetings, activities, programs, seminars, extension lectures, project works etc. At present K. Santhosh Kumar is the Principal of this college.
