The Govt. College, Mhow was founded in year 1958. In beginning the classes were started in Government High School near Hari Fatak Square. Mr. A.R. Shinde was the first principal. After some time the college was shifted to Mall Road Cottage. In the year 1968, the college acquired ist own campus near DongarGoan, A.B.Road. Arts and Commerce faculty were started in year 1958, and Science faculty in 1968 in the college. In year 1982 college got affiliation from University for various PG courses. The Govt. P.G. College, Mhow was first started as an intermediate college, in the year 1956. Temporarily sharing its premises with K.B.E.P. School, Mhow. Two years later in 1958 its status was enhanced and the College was upgraded as Govt. Degree College, Mhow. Soon the residents of Gawali Palasia, near by villagers, came forward under the leadership of Shri Kishanbhai Patel and Shri Bhagirath Bhai Verma donated 40 Hectares of land for the proposed campus of the College. The construction work of the original building was completed in 1961. Subsequently the College was shifted to its present campus, situated along NH3 at the picturesque foothills of Vindhyachal Range. The then Degree College started with three faculties viz arts, science and commerce at U.G. level. It was affiliated to Vikram University, Ujjain. In 1962, it got affiliated with the then Indore University of Indore.
