Dr Lankapalli Bullayya College of Engineering for Women

Dr. Lankapalli Bullayya College, Visakhapatnam was started in 1973 by 'The Society for Collegiate Education'. The latter found its origin in the minds of select prominent citizens of the city who were deeply interested in promoting higher education. Appropriately they named the college in honour of Dr. Lankapalli Bullayya who was the then Vice Chancellor of the Andhra University.A ten-acre plot was acquired in the heart of the city and necessary buildings were constructed . The student strength has grown to around 3000, one-third of which are girls. The college is affiliated to the Andhra University. Presently there are eleven B Sc. Programmes: Mathematics-Physics-Chemistry, Mathematics-Physics-Electronics, Mathematics-Physics-Computer Science, Mathematics-Electronics-Computer Science, Mathematics-Statistics-ComputeScience, Chemistry-Zoology-Biotechnology,Chemistry-Biochemistry-Biotechnology,Chemistry-Microbiology-Biotechnology,Chemistry-Biotechnology-Botany,Botany-Zoology Chemistry, and Chemistry-Microbiology-Biochemistry. Other degree courses offered are B. Com and B. B. M. All the courses except B. Com are run on Self-Funded (SF) basis. Four years later the society found the need to establish a seperate institution for Intermediate Education and so founded Dr. Lanakapalli Bullayya Junior college in August 1978. Eleven PG programmes are also offered: MCA, MBA, M.A. /M. Sc Mathematics, M. A. English, M. Sc.Computer Science,M. Sc Microbiology,M. Sc Biotechnology,M. Sc Organic Chemistry,and M. Sc Analytical Chemistry. From the academic year 2010-2011 the Management has taken all efforts to start an Engineering college exclusively for women with BE/ BTech program in Computer Science and Engineering , Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Civil Engineering specialisations with total 240 intake.
