Education in Ayurveda has a rich tradition. It was taught in the universities of Takshila and Nalanda in ancient times - the golden era of Ayurveda. However, it suffered a setback during medieval period and more so during British rule in India. Fortunately, Ayurveda has received a new impetus after independence and is on its way to revival. But Mahatma Hans Raj thought of contributing to the development of Ayurveda long before Independence in 1898 by establishing Dayanand Ayurvedic College at Lahore. When the college was growing, all its movable & immovable property had to be left at Lahore due to partition in 1947. Consequently, it was re-established at Amritsar, but on account of insufficient space there, it was shifted to Jalandhar in 1953.
