Choithram College of Nursing

The Choithram college of nursing upgraded itself from the school to the collegiate level by starting B.Sc nursing (4 years) in the year 1996. Since than it has been the edifice of success. In the year 2005 M.Sc nursing ( 2 years) was started in five specialties, namely Medical S surgical Nursing, Community Health Nursing, Obstetrical Nursing , Child Health Nursing and Psychiatric Nursing. The college was recognized as study centre for three distance education courses in nursing of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi. These courses are Diploma in nursing administration, Certificate course in Infant and Newborn Care, and Certificate course in Maternal and Child Health . Three specialization courses for trained nurses have also been initiated at this college in Operation Room Nursing, Cardiothoracic Nursing and Critical Care Nursing. All the nursing courses conducted at Choithram College of nursing are recognized by Indian Nursing Council (INC). The degree courses (B.Sc. &b M.Sc. Nursing) are affiliated to the Devi Ahilya Vishav Vidalya (DAVV) Indore. The college has not only gained academic excellence but is also proud of producing skilled, committed, conscientious, and confident nursing graduates. Every year the students of this college are placed in top university positions with excellent academic performance. The college has excellent infrastructure and a team of hardworking, versatile and dedicated faculty and staff. Choithram College of Nursing has an active National Service Scheme (NSS) unit, affiliated to the DAVV. The students carry out various activities for the social welfare of people living in rural areas and urban slums. Various health awareness camps are organized under the guidance of program officer of the college and NSS director of the university. All the nursing educational programs here are organized very carefully to provide broad and in depth knowledge and skills to the students to enable them to function effectively in varied nursing situations where after graduation they may need to function. The Choithram College of nursing not only prepares graduates and post graduate nurses, but also gives them opportunities to conduct and participate in the on going educational programs organized by the college in collaboration with Choithram hospital and research centre. Various workshops, conferences, seminars and panel discussions are conducted regularly to help upgrade knowledge and skills of the faculty and post graduate students that are essential to keep pace with the advancement in technology and ever changing trends in the health care system. Education, Service and Research are the three areas in which the college has committed itself to excel (it can be seen in the college mono). Research cell of the college has members from the five departments of the college (Med. Surg., Psychiatric, Community Health, Obstetrics and Pediatrics) as well as research scholars and doctors from the Choithram hospital. Each Department conducts research projects in areas that would help improve patient care and refresh and enrich nursing knowledge.
