Chamarajendra Academy of Visual Arts, Mysore was established in the year 1982 by the Government of Karnataka with a view to upgrade CTI and encourage the cultivation of inherent artistic skills among aspiring art students and to promote excellence in all forms of visual art. Prof. V.M. Sholapurkar, a product of the J.J. School of Art was appointed as the Dean to head the institute (1982-88).
