Bhangar Mahavidyalaya is a degree college for General higher education, situated in Bhangar Block I, P.S. Bhangar, and Baruipur Sub-Division under South 24 Paraganas District, West Bengal. Excepting Shushil Kar College (27 kms), Sonarpur Mahavidyalaya (30 kms) and Baruipur College (39 kms) in its south-west, Barasat College (40kms) and Derozio College (23kms) in north-west, Basirhat College (52kms) and Taki Govt. College (68 kms) in the north-east, Kalinagar College (80kms) and Hazi Desarat College (90kms) in the south-east, Bankim Sardar College (50kms) in the south and Kolkata Colleges (at 30 kms) in the west of the vast area was deprived of any institution of higher learning for a long time ( in the adjacent area two colleges namely Humayun Kabir Mahavidyalaya and Jiban Tala College have come up). Economic hardship and medieval communication link compelled the students belonging to ordinary and low middle class families to forsake prosecution of higher studies after passing out from school leaving examinations. Only the few haling from rich and upper middle class families could afford to seek admission in Kolkata and other advanced neighbouring areas at premiums, leaving under-privileged, especially the girls? students stranded in the middle. The establishment of Bhangar Mahavidyalaya somewhat succeeded in filling in the vacuum in the sense that the vast multitude of young learners now got the chance to stake their academic careers through this college in venturing either on foot or bicycle or by bus, trekker etc. In course of time, the road network has intersected Bhangar between the Science City (Kolkata) through high profile Kolkata Leather Complex, Basanti, Dhamakhali, Kanmari and Malancha in the east, Champahati, Sonarpur and Baruipur in the southwest and Rajarhat Township in the north.
