Assam Engineering College was established in 1955 is the first Undergraduate Engineering College in the North eastern India. It started with Civil Engineering discipline, and within a few years other departments came into existence. The College is surrounded on two sides by the Historical Deepor Beel (a huge Natural Wetland now declared a Bird Sanctuary by the Government of India) and evergreen hills on the outskirts of Guwahati city, about 13 kms. on the west. The College is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education AICTE.
