Andhra Mahila Sabha (AMS), a voluntary social welfare organization was started by Padma Vibhushan Dr Smt Durgabai Deshmukh with the prime objective of empowering women, particularly women hailing from socially and culturally oppressed classes, through knowledge and bringing about a positive transformation in the their lives. The AMS School of Informatics (AMSSOI as it is popularly known) is a unit of AMS, offering Post Graduate programs for girls leading to MCA and MBA degrees under the aegis of Osmania University. In the year 1994, AMS started the MCA program approved by the Osmania University. To take the MCA program forward, AMSSOI was established in the year 1998 and Prof Vanaja Iyengar was the prime force and founder of AMSSOI. MBA course was introduced in 2008. AMSSOI is one of the preferred institutions for girls pursuing MCA and MBA. The well equipped labs, spacious lecture halls, well established library, excellent and dedicated staff (having exposure to both industry and academics) ensure that the students acquire sound knowledge in various subjects in the IT & Management fields. The objective of our programmes is imparting quality and practical education focusing on all around development of the students. Over the years AMSSOI management and faculty have been engaged in an honest endeavour to improve the quality of inputs and further enhance the position in the league of schools of Management and IT. As a result, our students have secured university ranks and have excelled themselves in many extra-curricular activities. The fast changing economic landscape has brought to the fore increased competition, combined with a variety of strategic opportunities. In the light of these, AMSSOI continues to live up to its brand image of producing dynamic, knowledge rich professionals with an ability to take suitable roles based on a value system that is so much a part AMSSOI. For the past over fifteen years, AMSSOI has been providing students from varied backgrounds an ideal platform to build on their existing knowledge and skills, thereby moulding them into IT and management Professionals. With the introduction of Management course, our students are also reaping the benefits of interdisciplinary interaction so that they get fully equipped to face the demands and challenges lying ahead in the corporate arena. AMSSOI establishes relationships with various companies to regularly learn the industrial trends and orient its students to meet those requirements closely and quickly. The faculty members are also consultants in various industries. Visits to industrial units are organised to help students gain practical insight into the working of industrial organizations and to learn how an industrial workforce is managed effectively. The MCA students undertake a number of exciting and industry oriented projects. Our faculty members have taken up consultancy and field work in organizations such as ASCI and other private consultancy organizations. In order to promote research among members of staff, AMSSOI organizes Study Circle Lectures. In these lectures that are conducted every month for both MCA and MBA streams, faculty present the findings of their research and development activities. These are then published on an annual basis in the form of a compendium. AMSSOI has a Student Branch of Computer Society of India (CSI). All students of MCA are members of CSI. CSI-AMSSOI Student Branch aims at inculcating technical, leadership, organisational and professional skills in its students by making them organise and participate in various technical events. The Branch received the Best Regional Student Branch award from Computer Society of India for its active participation in the past. The Branch along with AMSSOI also conducts an Annual IT Students Meet called Adhyayan which is now scaled to National level. AMSSOI conducts on annual basis a management students? event called ?Abhyuday?. The event focuses on a theme of contemporary interest with active involvement of the Hyderabad Management Association of which AMSSOI is a member. Students from the various MBA colleges participate in the event in contests such as best manager, business quiz, advertising, mock-interviews etc. In its quest to nurture innovation, AMSSOI have established a student chapter of AP HoneyBee association. Students take part in ?sodhan? yatras of the Association. AMSSOI is a strong believer of Gandhian values and principles. Students at AMSSOI conduct monthly Gandhian study meeting in which they discuss Gandhiji?s ideologies and practical application of these ideologies in daily lives thereby nurturing moral values and societal interaction. To increase the oratory and writing efficiency, competitions such as essay, elocution, Quiz, GDs, are organized. AMSSOI provides students with well-developed playground for out door games viz., Basket Ball, Throw Ball, Volley Ball, Tennikoit. Shuttle, Kho-Kho, Kabaddi etc. Students are encouraged to play indoor games such as Caroms, Chess, etc. MCA students have mini projects like ?Electronics Carroms Game Software? and ?Electronic Player Software? for which studies and fun are combined beneficially.
Apart from imparting quality education to the students, every effort is made to improve overall personality of a student. Cultural Activities are conducted for the students including Singing, Dancing, Rangoli, Mehendi, Painting, Flower arrangement and Vegetable Carving. Some of our students have come up with innovative ideas for use and conversion of waste material into eco friendly usable items.
