What commenced hesitantly in a room with just 14 with children under a thatch roof in the nook of a by-lane on a summer morning in 1967 at Chennai (then Madras) was the first step that a young lady took with her father's help and husband's encouragement to what today is the 7000 student strong Alpha Group of Institutions. Alpha is the reality of a long cherished dream of Late M G Thomas- Dr. Grace George's father , an eminent educationist with a great vision; one who ensured that everything he did was consigned to posterity thereby making certain that generation of students would reap the fruits of his labour. The legacy was nurtured by Dr. Grace George's husband, late N George a Chartered Secretary by profession. The institution progressed with his innovative ideas. After the demise of her husband in 1990, the destiny of Alpha rested with Dr Grace George, a person who inherited the fierce passion and foresight of her father. Her purpose then emerged - carrying a vision of excellence in imparting quality education forward. An eager learner, Dr. Grace George had her primary education in Hyderabad. She graduated in Commerce with a B.Com from Kerala University. A post graduation soon followed with an M.A. in Literature besides a Bachelors in Education B.Ed from the Regional College University, Mysore. Dr. Grace George brought skills of entrepreneurship, business leadership and innovation that enabled her to successfully steer the School into a marquee Institution recognized for excellent academic and co-curricular development of children
