Andhra Lutheran College of Education is an offshoot of Andhra Christian College, which in it?s early period of formation function as an Anglo Vernacular School in the District Collector?s Compound, Guntur. That school was handed over to Mr. John Christian Fredrick Heyer (better known as Fr. Heyer) on July 31st, 1842, Fr. Heyer (10-7-1793 to 7-11-1873) was an American Missionary , who established American Civil War and economic difficulties, the school was closed down in 1863. Dr. L.L. Uhl reopened it in 1873. In September 1885, that school, was named as the American Evangelical Lutheran Mission (AELM) College and was affiliated to Madras University. In March 1926, the college was affiliated to Andhra University. Then the college was renamed as Andhra Christian College 1928. Since then, it has been growing like fine and firm tree, establishing different courses and departments with suitable infrastructure and producing prominent individuals. In this spreading out process, one of the departments is our Bacheor of Education Course, which was launched in 1950. With a vision of the growing educational needs of the country, the Andhra Evangelical Lutheran Mission determined to start B.Ed, Course on a self-governing basis in order to assist the community. With that motive, affiliation was secured in 19645 from Andhra University for a separate education college, which was then located in the Uhl Oswald compound, Brodiepet, Guntur. The management control of Andhra Lutheran College of Education was vested with the Andhra Evangelical Lutheran Church, which is an incorporated organization, registered under the societies Registration Act. The College administration runs under the guidance of the Board of College Education, which is constituted by the Chrch. Andhra Lutheran College of Education has been offering Bachelor of Education course since 1950 and Master of Education course from the academic year 1972-73. It also offered Vacation Course in Master of Education (two summers to meet the needs of in-service teachers, who paid attention to advance their instructional skills. The college also acted as a research centre for M.Phil and Ph.D. Courses, by producing a number of Doctorates in the field of Education. Andhra Lutheran College of Education was established with the purpose of inculcation the Christian values & way of life along the education. It holds the truism that the prosperity of a nation depends on it?s children and that prosperity of a nation relies on the caliber of it?s of it?s country men and the caliber of men can be evoked by teachers, who have received essential training and guidance must necessary spring from and res on true spiritual foundation. This college of Education deeply desires to assist it?s students to ikbibe the ideals of freedom and equality, brotherhood and esteem, social control and social change and the education, as a social elevator, paves the way for social regeneration. The college desires to instill the cognitive and positive reception fo those values, which can elevate men to purer and noler level of life and which will encourage them to dedicate their lives and talents to better the interests of their associates and their nation. Andhra Lutheran College of Education desires that the foundation it provides it?s pupil should evoke and intensify a sense of vocation and civic responsibility within as a natural complement to the privileges they have enjoyed.
